A targeted audit, designed to improve
engagement for multilingual learners
The organization
The partner school district has seen a rapid increase in new immigrants from Latin America. Multilingual students have the lowest on-time graduation rate and highest dropout rate of any subgroup in the district.
Goal
The district’s multilingual learner department wanted to understand what could be getting in the way of students feeling connected and engaged in the school experience.
The audit
The district used the Thriving Students Survey in high schools that enroll multilingual students.
Outcomes
Findings from the survey are being used to understand what schools are already doing well so this could be celebrated and replicated. Fig will also empathy interviews and engage in a co-design process with students to craft recommendations for school and district leaders.
